UNC Research Week offers online data and quantum sessions on October 21 and 23
A practical guide to two RENCI sessions: which research problem each addresses, when to join, and why the quantum discussion is about developing technology rather than a finished breakthrough.

Key points
- Data session: October 21,1–2pm; quantum session: October 23,9:30–10:45am, Chapel Hill local time
- Both event pages identify virtual sessions with registration links
- Quantum applications remain a research goal; the programme does not announce a deployable system
Researchers looking for help with complex data, or a grounded introduction to quantum research, have two online options during UNC-Chapel Hill’s October 19–23 Research Week. RENCI’s programme lists a data session on October 21 and a quantum panel on October 23. Their value is different: one introduces resources already available to researchers; the other examines a technology whose practical promise still depends on unresolved scientific and engineering work. [1][2][3]
Choose the data session for a current workflow problem
The October 21 session runs from 1–2pm on the Chapel Hill programme. It introduces Proto-OKN for connecting public knowledge graphs, the HEAL Data Reuse Team for finding and reusing shared research data, and iRODS for policy-based data management. Short presentations lead into a moderated panel and questions from the audience. This makes it a useful starting point for deciding which resource to investigate; attendance alone does not establish eligibility for every dataset or remove access and governance requirements. [2]
Choose quantum for the research landscape
The October 23 panel is scheduled for 9:30–10:45am. Participants from UNC, RENCI and MCNC will discuss computing and communication research, supporting materials and infrastructure. The event also plans a soft launch of UNC’s quantum website. These are scheduled discussions and a planned resource launch, not evidence that a new quantum computer has already been delivered or that its applications are commercially ready. [3]
Use each event’s registration link
Both organiser pages label the sessions as virtual and provide a registration link. Start with the relevant event page in the sources below, check the registration confirmation and its timezone before adding the session to your calendar, and obtain joining instructions there. The times reproduced here follow the Chapel Hill programme; they are not Bangkok times. Separate bookings may be needed, and the pages do not promise a recording or unrestricted access to all other Research Week activities. [2][3]
