A grant aimed at access as well as affordability

BBC reporting published on 8 October identifies Hull and four Lincolnshire authorities among 45 councils allocated £222,000 each to improve access to healthy, affordable food. North East Lincolnshire Council’s own notice confirms its allocation and describes the programme’s support for locally designed solutions. In the BBC’s new local interviews, Hull Food Partnership highlights barriers beyond income, including distance from shops and limited time for cooking or shopping. BBC News.

What remains to be decided

Community food shops, mobile greengrocers and lunch clubs are examples of initiatives the funding could support. They are possibilities, rather than a confirmed list of new services in Hull. The BBC reports that a government meeting the following week is expected to provide councils with further details. North East Lincolnshire says it is exploring how to use its share. Residents should therefore distinguish the funding award from an application scheme or an opening announcement: the source notices do not yet provide those details. North East Lincolnshire Council.
